Dear Niles Community Schools Families,

Niles Community School is eager and excited to welcome our students back to our classrooms for the 2023-24 school year. Through our multiple summer program options, we’ve been fortunate to stay in touch with many of our students and their families. Our district’s teachers, staff and administrators have been preparing diligently during the summer months to ensure the return to school is as smooth as possible.

I’d like to take this opportunity to share that our community is extremely supportive of its schools and we are grateful to have strong partnerships with many civic and social service organizations in the area.  Partnering with the YMCA, Chartwells, Niles District Library and others, students were able to take advantage of fun and engaging learning opportunities during the summer months. In addition,  our graduates benefited from being awarded over $80,000 in local scholarships!

Across the county, districts this year will be working together and sharing resources to build educator capacity around common literacy standards, the Science of Reading, and delivery of explicit foundational skills and strategies. We are also focused on building educator capacity around common math standards, the 8 mathematical practices and delivery of explicit foundational skills and strategies.  In addition, we are devoted to building our educators' capacity to foster student belonging and engagement, where ALL are connected and accepted. Our resolve to improve instruction and student outcomes is united and I am excited to witness the exceptional growth from our students this school year.

Safety and security is a priority for Niles Community Schools. Late last spring and throughout the summer, we consulted with local emergency personnel as well as a private security company to review our facilities, practices, policies, and procedures. Based on their recommendations, we have enhanced our safety and security features and will continue this partnership and our efforts throughout the school year. School safety takes a commitment from the entire community, and we ask that you help us by sharing ways to report threats and incidents responsibly and appropriately with your child. Tips can be submitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by texting 652729 (OK2SAY) or calling 8-555-OK2SAY (855-565-2729)

At Niles Community Schools, our dedicated staff are passionate about engaging students and delivering high quality instruction in the classroom. As a result, our students have demonstrated tremendous success and the talents they showcase during competitions leave audiences breathless. I couldn’t be more proud of our Viking staff and students.

Once again, we are eager to build upon the ongoing success of our school community. As we look ahead to all this upcoming year will bring, Niles Community Schools is continuously grateful for your ongoing support and dedication to your child’s academic career. We look forward to spending the 2023-2024 school year as your educational partner.

Educationally yours,
